Virtuality to feature openly gay characters

For some reason Star Trek gets singled out for not including any gay characters when, truth be told, you'd be hard pressed to tell whether or not a lot of science fiction characters on TV, in the movies or in books were were straight, gay or asexual.

One of the show's former writers, Ronald Moore, who is now more famous for his work on Battlestar Galactica has been discussing why Trek never included any gay characters. In summary, it's because it wasn't a priority for any of the writers.

Moore has rectified that somewhat with some gay and ambiguous characters in Galactica, but in a new show that he is developing, Virtuality, there are openly homosexual characters.

While we're talking about gay science fiction, there is actually an award that recognizes that niche called the Gaylactic Spectrum Award and this year's winners have been announced.
