You can't get there without a map

I've always loved maps. One of the things I like about fantasy novels is that many of them have been inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien to include maps to depict their imaginary worlds so you can follow the progress of the adventurers as they follow their quest.

Maps aren't just for fantasy novels, however. Here is an example of someone who uses maps as his medium for telling stories. He creates maps of imaginary places that look like they could be anywhere on Earth.

Fans are also creating maps for other fictional universes like this map of where the Marvel superheroes hang out in Manhattan.  When I was in NYC with my kids this summer, I told them that only the best superheroes live there. The second-tier superheroes toil in smaller places like Oshkosh and Des Moines.
