Fanboys is for fanboys only
Fanboys is the movie's title, but it probably also describes the only people who are going to like this film.
A quick scan of the tepid reviews for this genre-tinged movies make it clear that you're only going to like this movie if you would ever actually consider sneaking into Skywalker Ranch to steal an unreleased copy of Phantom Menace so that you're dying friend can view it before he died which is, in essence, the premise of the movie.
Meanwhile, the Star Trek fanboys are salivating over the impending movie reboot of that franchise. Paramount is hedging its bets that it will be a big hit because they're already lining people up for the sequel for 2011.
The writers were keenly aware of the devotion of the Star Trek fan community and, if you believe this interview with them, they paid close attention to what they had to say when they wrote the script.
And before you go making fun of fanboys, consider this documentary, The Sci-Fi Boys, which explains how fans of the past became famous movie directors later in life so there's hope for us yet.

Sci-Fi boys
The Sci-fi boys is a movie that I've been itching to watch for some time, but have not come across it yet. I still lament the fact that Bob Burns was a no show at the 2006 worldcon. But I've been fortunate enough to meet Forry, Ray Harryhausen and Ray Bradbury. I wonder what future generations will make of these giants. Is there anyone lined up to fill their shoes?
