Scientists doubt space elevator could ever get off the ground
So much for the idea of a space elevator. A recent report dismisses the possibility that we'll ever be able to build them out of carbon nanotubes. I guess that slingshot idea isn't so crazy after all.
Perhaps the X-Prize for the first lunar lander will do something to kick of some serious space development. Weren't we all supposed to be living in space colonies by now? They've figured out how to extract oxygen from lunar soil so how hard can it be and why does it seem appropriate to quote Robert A. Heinlein at a time like this?
I think it's going to be a long time before any more people ever walk on the moon. Former Apollo astronaut Allen Beam better keep pumping out the paintings so that we don't forget what it looks like.

Perhaps a better caption
Perhaps a better caption would be 'A scientist doubts ..'. It's a theoretical study.
Three months ago it was not time to declare it a done deal, this month it's not time to give up and go home. More study is needed. For a learned response see Tom Nugent's reply at our blog http://www.liftport.com/blogs/
Do you have any idea what I am talking about?
