Will 2012 be a disaster? The movie, that is, not the year

The apocalyptic disaster movie 2012 opens this week. Enough preview screening have happened that there is a fair body of critical writing about the film. It seems to be one of those films that you love or hate. Critics compiled at Rotten Tomatoes seem to be divided, with half giving it a thumbs up and the other half a thumbs down, but if you looked at the ratings from critics for big-name outlets the results are clearly negative.
Sadly, there is a large number of people out there that believe the hokum about the world ending in 2012 due to some pseudo-science making the rounds. NASA is going to great lengths to dispel some of the myths surrounding the date. I doubt that they'll have much effect because the same people who buy the 2012 bunk probably think NASA is engaging in some conspiracy or other.
Sky & Telescope, a magazine popular with amateur astronomers, also wrote an article dispelling the myths surrounding 2012 so that its readers can educate any friends or family members who might not understand what they are talking about.
I'll reserve judgement on the movie until it officially opens, but I doubt that it will crack this list of the 9 best eco-apocalypse science fiction films.
