I'm in the DUFF race!

The comment you are replying to does not exist.

Not the beer from The Simpsons; this stands for the Down Under Fan Fund. The winner gets an all-expenses paid trip to Aussiecon 4, the Worldcon in Australia in September. In return they file a full write-up on the con sold to raise funds to refill it, and they are the administrator for the next 2 years.

I couldn't find a way to attach the ballot file here, so message or e-mail me to ask. The decision comes Mar. 31, and it costs $10 USD to vote. That fee goes into the fund.

DUFF voting online

You can cast your DUFF vote online at http://wrevenge.com/duff2010/ where you can also make the necessary fan fund donation via PayPal. If you're suspicious of online transactions, you can print out a PDF of the ballot from this page: http://fanac.org/fan_funds/DUFF2010.pdf then mail it along with a cheque. The minimum donation is $5.50 CAD.

I've made my vote!

DUFF requirements

There are some eligibility requirements which are all fine and dandy:

Eligibility to vote: Anyone may vote who has been active in fandom on or before January 1, 2009. “Active in fandom” is defined as being involved in fannish pursuits such as fanzine writing or reading, convention running or attending, amateur film or video production and/or club participation. Only natural persons may vote and may vote only once.

But right after the entry fields for generel voter data (name, address, etc) there is this:

If you think you may be unknown to the administrators, please give the name of a fan or fan group (other than a candidate or nominator) who can vouch that you meet the voting criteria.

Followed by entry fields for the refrence name and address. Huh? I want to make sure my vote gets counted, but there is no way that the vote counters know who I am, much less the many cons I've attended over the years! I wish I could just enter "Captain Xerox" and then "The Website at the End of the Universe", but I doubt that that would be good enough (although in my books that's saying a lot about me ).

I guess I should have joined Mon SFFA or the "Ottawa SF Society" all these years. Do I not have any SF street cred? I can't put Thoth down as a ref either (and assume that TOU LOCs don't count as well). Does getting a "Thank you" in the credits in the "Timeline of the Planet of the Apes" book count? How about having one of my letters printed in the "Revolution of the Planet of the Apes" comic?

What should I do?

What'd you put cap?

DUFF references

Yeah, using a pseudonym as a reference probably isn't a great idea. I put in Jeff himself as a reference. I'd say a nominee is as pretty good a reference as any!

No candidate refs!

But it says:

please give the name of a fan or fan group (other than a candidate or nominator)

Oyiii!

Didn't notice that

I missed that line, but got a confirmation message that they accepted my vote and they were certainly happy to take my donation so I don't think they disqualified me.
