New biography explores the life of Alice B. Sheldon aka James Tiptree Jr.

There is a new biography of Alice B. Sheldon, better known by her pen name James Tiptree Jr. The book is called The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon. Here is a review and another.

An award in her honour is handed out each May for science fiction that explores our understanding of gender. Here is an interesting history of the James Tiptree Jr. Award.

Alas, I looked back at the winners list since 1991 and can't say that I've read any of them, although I do have a few languishing on my shelves. How about you?

No tiptrees on my shelves

I don't fare as good as you. I looked at the list and I don't think I have ANY of the tiptree award winners on my shelves.

As far as Alice/Tiptree herself, I have read a few of her short stories in the past but must admit that I wasn't all that impressed by what I read. But most of those I read while a teen so I expect it may have just been beyond my comprehension level. (Ie I was too dumb to understand!)  I remember reading "The saliva tree" not once, but twice (a rarity for me) because the were in "best of" type compilations. But it was no better for me the second time around.
