Marketing to kids ensures future success of Star Wars franchise
I've figured out why Star Wars continues to grow in popularity while Star Trek has begun its slow decline into cult obscurity. It's all about marketing to kids. You can give your baby a Yoda plush toy or get Chewbacca doo-dads with your fast-food kiddie meal. All that exposure to marketing, breeds a new generation of Star Wars fans.
My five-year-old son blew me away the other day with a drawing he made of Yoda which is the thumbnail for this post. The kid has never seen a frame of any of the movies and yet is eerily familiar with the Star Wars mythos as delivered by school-yard proselytizers. Ask him about Star Trek and he'll just look at you like your talking a foreign language.
With new Star Wars TV shows in the works, the final victory of Star Wars over Star Trek will be sealed. Just wait until the 2014 Winter Olympics be held on Hoth.

"The series is set between Episode III and IV"
Oh no.
Luke learns how to repair a moisture collector, argues with Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen, then joins up with Wedge Antilles and pals to talk about their dreams of joining the Imperial Flight Academy.
In the desert of Tatooine.
Oh gods no.
Anything but that.
For crisssake's, there's so much to tell about Boba Fett, Chewbakka and Han Solo, how they grow up, how does Chewie and Han join up. Leave Luke alone. He's boring.
Here's an idea: Give carte blanche to Genndy Tartakovsky to animate whatever the hell he wants as long at it preserves the continuity between III and IV. It worked brilliantly for the Clone Wars.
Ps: HAN SHOT FIRST!
Re: "The series is set between Episode III and IV"
"Han shot first" has taken on legendary proportions. It started out slowly, got it's own web site and now has it's own wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_Shot_First

'natch Han shot first. It's pre-requisite for being a scoundrel.
