Con*cept 2008 : Brin

Looks like David Brin will be the GoH at Con*cept this year.

So dust off your Startide books now. Read the first book, but never followed up with the sequels. I think I'll try to read The Postman before the con.

Uplift books and Brin

I own a copy of The Uplift War. I also have Brightness Reef, but I never finished it; I found no characters I could identify with enough to stay interested.

I just hope he isn't invisible like David Weber was!

I never could get into Brin

He's won all sorts of awards for his books, but I never was able to appreciate Brin's work. I read Uplift War, but it did nothing for me. I own the sequels, but they're shoved way into the back of my shelves.

The Postman was decent. I'm curious to see the movie that was allegedly so bad. I suspect it's not nearly as bad as the critics made it out to be. They seem to want to tear down science fiction movies at any opportunity so you have to read any reviews of SF movies from mainstream writers with a grain of salt.

Anyone know if he's written anything lately that's worth reading?

It's been a while, but I remember it being decent movie. Go for it.

Postman got 15 minutes out of me...

I'm must not have been in the mood for that movie, I lasted 15 minutes before I gave up on this movie being anything but boring.  I've never read the book so I can't comment on it being like it or not.

He published a book in 2003

I bought it and got it signed at Torcon 3 in Toronto. Couldn't really remember the title right now, because I never finished it. His earlier Uplift books up to Uplist War I enjoyed, but none since.

He was one of the "3 Bs" who wrote the sequel series to Foundation.
