Do you judge a book by its cover? What about this list of 30 of the most beautiful #scifi covers ever made? http://t.co/F2s9JmUCtj

Hmm. Beauty may be in the eye of the behold, but I doubt that you will find many people out there who would agree that this selection even comes close to the most beautiful SF cover art. And what with the multiple entries for so many authors (Heinlien, Butler, Le Guin, Priest and Atwood). Of all the great covers Leo and Diane Dillon made for Ellison, they pick that one? This selection sounds more like a particular fan looking at the own meager SF bookshelf and picking out 30. Even the space depictions are nothing close to so many superior cover paintings out there. And finally, a lot of those covers are atrocious !

I agree with you. I was amazed at how lacklustre the choices were. I could probably randomly pick 30 books from my shelf, scan the covers and be able to create a more compelling gallery.

Twilight Zone was the highest ranked #scifi show on the The Writers Guild of America list of best-written TV shows. http://t.co/JNTrPoWOr1

Actually, TZ came in the number 3 spot, not 5. It’s pretty hard to rank an entire series run when so many writers are involved over a long period of time and for so many episodes. Given a few particular episodes of say the the X-files at it’s best, it should have been rated higher. But there were clunker episodes to be sure. To really give a fair assessment Judges would have to have seen EVERY episode of EVERY series (including shows that did not make the list and were just short). Of course they could not have done that. Still and interesting list. I agree with it in general but of course disagree with some of the scores. In particular I would rate BTVS and Dexter much higher. I am glad that the comedy shows were not short changed either. It is an accomplishment to write really funny scripts. (Although the Honeymooners should be above Lucy, IMHO).

For those too lazy to read the list, I broke out just the fantasy and science fiction shows and ranked them. In brackets, I indicated their position in the top 100:

      1. Twilight Zone (5)
      2. The X-Files (26)
      3. Battlestar Galactica (38)
      4. Game of Thrones (40)
      5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (49)
      6. Star Trek: TNG (79)
      7. The Prisoner (90)

I’ve only read 6. Glad he included “Tau Zero” which I consider to be somewhat under estimated. Not sure about classifying “Forever War” as hard SF. That is more a ‘people’ novel than about the Waldos/pods. I would have thought that there are other better candidates than that one for top ten list.
